Directed by John Cromwell and produced by David O. Selznick, Made for Each Other is a romantic drama starring James Stewart and Carole Lombard—two Hollywood legends at the peak of their charm. Released by United Artists, the film explores the trials of a young couple navigating love, career setbacks, and family pressures during the Great Depression.
Plot Summary
John Mason (James Stewart), a mild-mannered attorney, impulsively marries Jane (Carole Lombard) after meeting her on a business trip. Their whirlwind romance is tested by financial hardship, a domineering mother-in-law, and professional disappointment when John is passed over for a promotion. After the birth of their child, tragedy strikes: the baby falls gravely ill with pneumonia, and only a life-saving serum flown in during a storm can save him. The film’s climax hinges on a daring flight through treacherous weather—a sequence inspired by Selznick’s real-life experience trying to save his brother.
