Plot Overview
Hard-nosed Miami private investigator Michael Shayne (Hugh Beaumont) promises his exasperated secretary and fiancée, Phyllis Hamilton (Trudy Marshall), that he is officially packing his bags for a long-overdue, quiet fishing vacation. However, Shayne’s getaway is derailed when a frantic woman named Mayme Martin (Claire Carleton) reaches out, desperate to sell him insider information regarding a massive counterfeiting syndicate operating at the local horse racing track.
Intrigued by the case, Mike stalls his vacation plans to investigate. Before he can extract the full story, Mayme is murdered inside her apartment, and Mike finds himself plunged into a web of forged winning pari-mutuel tickets. With hot-headed police detective Peter Rafferty (Ralph Dunn) watching his every step and a shadowy gang of extortionists resorting to kidnapping and assassination to protect their illegal racetrack scheme, Shayne must dodge bullets, untangle identity swaps, and outsmart a ruthless mastermind to stay alive and finally claim his vacation.
