Dark Mountain (1944)

Directed by William Berke and released by Paramount Pictures, Dark Mountain is a compact, 56-minute film noir crime drama that blends urban corruption with rugged outdoor survival. Produced by Pine-Thomas Productions, the film stars Robert Lowery, Ellen Drew, and Regis Toomey, and is also known by alternate titles like Thunderbolt and Thunder Mountain.

Plot Summary
Kay Downey (Ellen Drew) unknowingly marries a gangster, Steve Downey (Regis Toomey), and becomes entangled in his criminal activities. When Steve commits murder, Kay turns to her ex-boyfriend Don Bradley (Robert Lowery), now a forest ranger, for help. Don hides her in a remote cabin deep in the Dark Mountain wilderness, but Steve is determined to find them.

As the manhunt escalates, the film shifts from urban noir to backwoods suspense, with themes of redemption, loyalty, and moral reckoning. The climax unfolds in the forest, where justice is finally served.
