Monster From the Ocean Floor (1954)

Directed by Wyott Ordung and produced by a then-unknown Roger Corman, Monster from the Ocean Floor is a low-budget creature feature that helped launch Corman’s legendary career in independent filmmaking. Plot Summary
American artist Julie Blair (Anne Kimbell) is vacationing in a seaside Mexican village when she hears rumors of a man-eating sea monster lurking in the cove. Skeptical but curious, she teams up with marine biologist Steve Dunning (Stuart Wade) to investigate. As mysterious deaths and disappearances mount, Julie becomes convinced the monster is real. In a daring underwater finale, Steve uses a mini-submarine to confront the creature—revealed to be a giant amoeba-like beast.

• The original title was It Stalked the Ocean Floor, but distributors found it “too cerebral” and changed it to Monster from the Ocean Floor
