Directed by Ralph Brooke, Bloodlust! is a low-budget horror-thriller that riffs heavily—though without credit—on Richard Connell’s classic short story The Most Dangerous Game. Filmed in 1959 but released in 1961 as part of a double feature with The Devil’s Hand, it’s a pulpy tale of young adults trapped on a jungle island where the hunter doesn’t just stalk animals—he stalks people.
Plot Summary
Two teenage couples—Betty and Johnny, Jeanne and Pete—are vacationing at sea when they decide to explore a nearby island. They soon encounter Dr. Albert Balleau (Wilton Graff), a reclusive war veteran who has turned his passion for hunting into a deadly obsession. Balleau lures them into his mansion, where they discover his gruesome trophies: mounted human bodies of past victims.
As the teens try to escape, they uncover acid vats, secret tunnels, and a chilling aquarium with a floating corpse. Balleau, once a sniper, now uses his skills to hunt humans for sport. The group must outwit him and survive the island’s horrors before becoming his next display.
